Butterflies,
I am over the moon to be releasing another album to you. My 24th. Every day, I remind myself of how thankful I am that people are still listening, still supporting, still singing along, still making dance videos, still collecting, and still spreading the love on social media about my work. That's why each album is dedicated to you. I want you to listen to this album in the car, in the sun. I want you to listen to this album on vinyl with loud speakers. And, of course, through your headphones.
This album is called Tough Love. I set an ambition to write about things, people, and events in my life that make me happy. I wrote about my journey & how far I've come. I wrote about trying to love the things about myself that I've seen as nothing but negative. I may be tough on myself, but my heart beats so loud.
I am so excited for you to hear the rest of the music in Tough Love. I reunited with Simon Green (Bonobo) again for "Look Into My Eyes", featuring the incredible Ms Banks, after working with him on 2020's Pathways. I worked with the amazing Kim Young So, guitarist from K-Pop band Hoppípolla, for two lovely interludes, the opener "River Road" and "It's Not Too Late" (splitting the album up into two parts) as well as the closing track "Light At the End". I worked with Chris Davids & Liam Ivory (Maribou State) on the first half of the album & Keith Kenniff (Helios) for the second half of the album. Keith created a warm sonic tapestry from luminous guitar lines, elegant piano work, ingeniously crafted rhythms, and lo-fi electronic elements. Chris & Liam used cascading strings, buried Bollywood vocals, floating horns, and sci-fi synth riffs that all surface to the top.
3 bonus tracks are exclusively available in the Butterfly Records B-Rec Box, including a collaboration with DJ duo Bicep & talented singer Jamie Irrepressible plus two tracks produced by techno duo Kiasmos.
