Much Too Good for Children
If Light as the Sky, Dark as the Night was the climax of a dark series of live events, Much Too Good for Children deals with the aftermath of a spiritual resurrection. It's about coming to terms with living with a hurricane of emotional trauma + negative voices, but when faced with a life or death ultimatum: life + love always wins. I guess you could call it a concept album, a rich girl is confined to her mansion + comes face to face with the deepest + rawest pieces of her psyche + her heart. The photoshoot depicts her in luxurious outfits at all different spots of her mansion, trying so hard to look fierce + powerful, but feeling so scared + so alone inside. It's not much of a concept, more so my reality. I drew inspiration from different places but especially from one of my favorite movies, Matilda, a girl with magic inside her, who grew up so alone + so underappreciated until life gifted her honey. Willy Wonka + the Chocolate Factory also inspired me with the album's design. It's nice to think that a person who had been through so much misfortune would be able to find a golden ticket + turn it all around. I'm still looking for that golden ticket in my life, I might always be. This album contains some of my most personal writing, I know I may have said that before, but trust me on this. I am extremely proud of this body of work, I think it is definitely a mixed bag of not only sound but emotion, but that is how the past year has been for me. A rollercoaster of ups + downs. Half of the album is produced by Laurent Clerc, aka Little People, of whom I worked with for several tracks on Afloat. I also worked with the amazing Cassian for the first time on a few tracks, as well as YouTube's famous Ronald Jenkees, + reunited with Nils Frahm for the penultimate + closing tracks.
Much Too Good for Children, my 23rd studio album, will be released October 23 on Butterfly Records. I will be releasing 3 pre-album singles: Trouble Always Follows Me is now available, Only Love will release October 9 + 1 more I will reveal next week. I will be performing on a few TV shows release week + I'm also doing an album signing at the NYC Butterfly Records.
