Freeze Up North: 10th Anniversary Special Edition

Dear Butterflies,

Wow, here we are in 2020. It still has not clicked in my head that I am now 10 years into the game, my stressful yet beautifully amazing career. It feels like yesterday that I was a kid singing in my bedroom, looking up at my posters of pop stars and rock stars, writing about heartbreak, fury, sadness, trauma… I guess you all may be wondering why I do not perform anything from my debut album “Freeze up North”. That period of my life may sound glamorous, being signed to a huge record label at 21 years old, being nominated and winning a Grammy award in my first year… However, it was anything but glamorous. That album was born out of mental and emotional abuse. That album brings back vivid memories of pain. I wrote, recorded and created those songs from ages 18-21 and the album came out right after turning 22. I was not where other young adults were at those ages. I was so far behind. I was living in the darkness, not overcoming it. I almost feel like I was encouraging it. It was as if we were celebrating my depression when I would hear you all sing back my words to me. Not to mention that the photography used throughout the era were my own photos, taken at a painful place I used to call home. Although, so many of you, over the years, have written and told me how much the album helped you get out of a depression. Though I am not fond of it, I am appreciative of how you all have grown with it and how you have protected it. I have read about how the Record Store Day 2016 clear vinyl of FUN has been highly sought after and even sold for close to $1,000. Therefore, I have decided that instead of trying to erase my past, I would acknowledge it and recognize that I have overcome the pain, the tragedy, and the sadness. I also recognize that this album helped a lot of you and was your introduction to me. This anniversary is for the Butterflies who have had my back for 10 years, and it is for me to celebrate how far I have come. I am no longer frozen. I love you. Jess

THE FREEZE UP NORTH 10TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION WILL RELEASE JANUARY 17, 2020. Includes never commercially released remixes, album bonus tracks never previously released on vinyl, the original “Freeze” album track list and artwork on vinyl for the first time, remastered visualettes for Bluray, and never-before-seen photographs taken by October. The series of releases includes a standard CD, Target-Exclusive CD with 3 bonus remixes, Cassette with frosted cassette tape, 4 different colors of 180g heavyweight double Vinyl, repressed 12" Vinyl of the three released singles, and a Special Edition Box Set.
