remix competition winners + new singles

2 weeks ago Butterfly Records + I began the first October Remix Competition in which fans could remix one of 5 tracks from The Underdog album ("Unhappy", "Instant", "Take Flight", "Take Heed", or "Dig Deeper"). 1 week was given for fans to sign up, gain access to stems from the original tracks, and remix them to their best ability. The deadline was 1 week ago and my team + I have been furiously listening to each 1 of the 842 (!!!!) submitted remixes. It has been a very tedious job and extremely challenging to determine which 8 would win. But, with a little help from the fan-voting service and my extremely skillful team, I have picked the 8 winners who will win not only a spot on the upcoming physical singles but a bunch of other goodies.

And now, I am very proud to present the 8 winners of the Remix Competition.

In First Place, "Take Flight", remixed by Laidnightly. How Laidnightly remixed the track was absolutely magnificent. Transforming the light and bubbly track into an aggressive synth explosion filled with differing segments and breakdowns made my ears extremely happy. Laidnightly also took my vocals from the track and made them more centered and crisper. Congratulations!

In Second Place, "Unhappy", remixed by Xenia Beliayeva. My fans voted this remix #3 and boy, were they correct in doing so! Xenia completely remodeled this track into a complete fantasy world. My vocals lift with the clouds and as if the lyrics were not already ironic to the song, this remix has taken the irony to an all new level! Congratulations!

In Third Place, "Dig Deeper", remixed by We Are Twice. Originally a very dark track with a happy ending, We Are Twice really understood how the lyrics and music went hand in hand with each other. They destroyed the original music and replaced it with their own, adding in my vocals, making it their own. The end result is a fantastic combination. Congratulations!

In Fourth Place, "Instant", remixed by Fabi Mingrino. WOW, what a great remix. This remix reminds me a lot of the Goldfrapp remix of Lady GaGa's "Judas" in which they took the original vocals and slowed them down to create this gothic witch-house kind of track. This is exactly what Fabi did with "Instant", originally a very bright and dreamy track, Fabi turns it around and creates a dark 9-minute tunnel where we fear we may never escape out of (of course in a good way!) Congratulations!

In Fifth Place, "Take Heed", remixed by Radio Error. We all really loved this remix because Radio Error turned this operatic dark track into a chill-out "synths-having-fun" (what we described it as) track. Radio Error took out a lot of the background vocals and simplified it to make it their own, which we admired! Congratulations!

In Sixth Place, "Take Flight", remixed by Gummo. The fans picked this as the #1 remix and I can definitely see why! This remix is a blast of energy and very dancehall inspired! Congratulations!

In Seventh Place, "Unhappy", remixed by Stan Sherman and Niko Laos. We all loved this remix because of its amazing use of orchestra replacing all of the music! It is a VERY interesting listen! Congratulations!

In Eighth Place, "Take Heed", remixed by Aston Martini. LOVED the choice of synths and how it starts off silent then breaks down with all of the synths, GENIUS! We really enjoyed this one. Congratulations!

What I was looking for in the remixes was if they were actually REMIXED! Not just the original track with a club beat slapped onto it! I was looking for remixers that transformed the original track into something original and creative! A HUGE congratulations to those who won and a HUGE thank you to everyone who participated! All of the remixes were fantastic!

And with that revealed....
"Take Flight" and "Unhappy" will serve as the final 4th + 5th singles from The Underdog.

"Take Flight / Unhappy" will release July 29th. There will be no official music video filmed for either track.
